A doctor-led guide to laser hair removal at L'eto Clinic Fulham (SW6, Parsons Green and Chelsea) and Ealing (W5). Safe for all skin types.
Laser hair removal is the most effective long-term solution for unwanted hair currently available. Done correctly, it removes the daily, weekly and monthly burden of shaving, waxing and threading. Done badly, it wastes your money and risks burns, pigmentation changes, or paradoxical hair growth. The difference is the laser, the operator, and the protocol — and at L'eto Clinic we take all three seriously.
Here's what you need to know if you are considering laser hair removal in Fulham, Chelsea, Parsons Green, Ealing, Park Royal or anywhere across West and South West London.
Laser hair removal works by selectively heating the pigment in the hair follicle. The light energy is absorbed by melanin in the hair, travels down the shaft, and damages the follicle at its root. Over a course of sessions, the follicle's ability to produce hair is significantly and permanently reduced.
Because the laser targets pigment, the treatment only affects hair that is actively in its growth phase (anagen). At any given time, only around 20 per cent of hairs in any one area are in this phase, which is why multiple sessions are essential. There is no laser, anywhere, that achieves full clearance in a single session — and any clinic that suggests otherwise is misleading you.
Most patients need 6 to 10 sessions, spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart, to achieve clearance of 80 to 90 per cent. The exact number depends on:
After the initial course, most patients need 1 to 2 maintenance sessions per year to address hairs that the original course missed or that have been triggered by hormonal changes.
Not all lasers are equal. The three most clinically validated wavelengths for hair removal are:
At our Fulham and Ealing clinics we use medical-grade systems calibrated to your specific skin type and hair characteristics — not a single one-size-fits-all device.
Yes — but only with the right laser. Older intense-pulsed-light (IPL) machines and Alexandrite lasers used alone are not safe on skin types V and VI because they cannot reliably distinguish between hair pigment and skin pigment, risking burns and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
We use Nd:YAG-capable lasers with appropriate wavelengths and settings for every skin type, including Fitzpatrick V and VI. Our protocol includes a mandatory patch test before your first session, and every appointment is conducted by a trained clinician — not a beauty therapist with a weekend certificate. This is one of the main reasons patients in West and South West London choose us for laser hair removal.
The sensation is often described as a hot pinprick or the flick of an elastic band. The intensity depends on the area being treated, your pain threshold, and the density of the hair. Most patients find the underarms and bikini line more sensitive than the legs.
Our lasers feature integrated cooling to make the experience as comfortable as possible. Numbing cream can be applied to sensitive areas on request.
We treat every area of the body and face at our Fulham and Ealing clinics:
Men make up a significant proportion of our laser hair removal patients. The most popular areas for men are back, shoulders, chest, neckline beard shaping, and ear/nose tidy-up. Many of our male patients in Chelsea, Fulham, Ealing and Park Royal come to us specifically because we offer discreet appointment times and a clinical, non-spa environment.
To get the best result and the safest experience, please:
For the first 48 hours after your session:
Around 7 to 14 days after each session, treated hairs will begin to "shed". This is completely normal and a sign the laser has worked.
The best time to start a laser hair removal course in the UK is autumn or winter, when you are less likely to be exposed to strong sun. A typical course of 6 to 10 sessions spans 9 to 18 months, so starting between September and November means you'll be fully clear by the following summer. That said, year-round courses are completely fine — you just need to be diligent with SPF.
The correct medical term is "permanent reduction" rather than "permanent removal". The damaged follicles do not regrow hair. However, hormones can trigger dormant follicles that the laser has not previously targeted to begin producing hair. This is particularly relevant during pregnancy, perimenopause, or for patients with PCOS. The right expectation is significant, long-lasting clearance — not a guarantee that you will never see another hair.
Our flagship clinic at 291 New King's Road, Fulham, SW6 4RE is a short walk from Parsons Green tube and minutes from Chelsea on the King's Road. Patients travel to us for laser hair removal from Chelsea, Fulham, Parsons Green, Sands End, Fulham Broadway, Hurlingham, South Kensington, Putney and Hammersmith. We offer extended hours to fit around work and the school run.
Our Ealing clinic is convenient for patients across Ealing, Park Royal, Acton, West Ealing, Hanwell, Northfields, Brentford and Chiswick. It is a great option if you would rather avoid central London for a regular treatment course.
The honest answer is that laser hair removal is significantly less effective, and often ineffective, on hair without pigment. If you have very pale blonde, red, white or grey hair we will tell you at your consultation, and may suggest electrolysis as an alternative.
Cost depends on the area, the number of sessions, and whether you opt for a course (which is more economical) or pay per session. We offer fixed-price courses for all popular areas at both our Fulham and Ealing clinics. Full pricing is available on our laser hair removal page.
We do not treat pregnant patients. There is no robust evidence that laser is unsafe in pregnancy, but the principle of caution applies, and hormonal changes during pregnancy also affect results. We are happy to pause an ongoing course and resume after you've finished breastfeeding.
Yes, you should see clearance of the treated hairs within 2 weeks of your first session, but new hairs from follicles that were previously dormant will continue to appear until the full course is complete. Patience and consistency matter.
Home IPL devices are weaker, less precise, and not suitable for darker skin tones. They can produce modest results on certain hair and skin combinations but are not equivalent to medical-grade in-clinic laser. They are also unable to treat the bikini line and face safely for most users.
Laser uses a single, precise wavelength of light, which means it targets hair more accurately and is safer across a wider range of skin types. IPL uses a broader spectrum of light and is generally less effective and less safe on darker skin. For long-term results, medical laser is the gold standard.
